Its origins date back to 1975 when Brazil had a very unspoilt coastline, inhabited only by fishermen. Surfing was not yet seen as a sport but as a lifestyle shared by very few. The surfer was considered a "nomad" looking for the best waves and, at the same time, discovering the coast of the country.
That was when the doctor Marco Aurelio Raymundo moved to the GAropaba beach in Santa Catarina, attracted by its perfect waves. Everything was fine, with his job in the clinic and surfing in his spare tine, until winter came. Being in the water was impossible due to the low temperatures and the surfers tried to fight the cold in various ways, including drinking cachaça and wearing woolen suits. But these solutions were not enough and that is how the doctor came up with the idea of the first wetsuit.
Morongo's creation (Morongo being the nickname by wich Marco Aurelio is known) offered the opportunity for any Brazilian surfer to have his own suit without relying on foreign brands, when the country was closed to imports. Even the fishermen became customers in order to be able to go out to sea.
Since then, Mormaii has become a reference in the world of surfing as well as in other modalities that derive from surfing: windsurfing, skateboarding and bodyboarding, pioneering innovation and creating a large mix of products: textiles, footwear, eyewear, accessories... and becoming one of the brands with most sales in the world of surfing and water sports in Brazil.
Part of its success is thanks to its strong commitment to marketing, with the sponsorship of many sporting events and support of mor than 40 renowned sportspersons from different modalities throughout the world.
The growht of the brand has crossed borders and it now distributes in over 50 countries and has licensed companies on 5 continents, with over 5000 references in its catalogues.
